From ‘Sexology to SexologieS’ will offer the opportunity for colleagues to consider the progress alongside the occasional confines within the fields of sexual advocacy work, sex education, sexual health, sexual medicine & sexual and couples’ therapies and the many other components regarded to constitute modern Sexology. The continuative need and importance of championing transformation for sexual health and wellbeing and for sexual and gender equality within Europe are just two of the many areas that will be a part of our programme. With evolution within sexology to SexologieS there will be the chance to explore opportunities on ways to deliver knowledge, influence and encourage universal acceptance of expression of sexuality and gender for everyone within our nations of the European Union, and beyond. There are challenges ahead – some may be political and some may come from within society – yet together within the profession of Sexology or SexologieS we can make a significant difference now and in the future. We are most fortunate to have the expertise and leadership of Sandra Vilarinho and her team from the Portuguese Society of Clinical Sexology as our local hosts in Portugal to assure you of the organisation of a congress that will scope the breadth of topics respectful of the sexual and gender needs of all. Together, EFS and SPSC will offer the chance for you to actively participate at our next congress and to be a part of the evolution within modern Sexology to SexologieS in Europe. Welcome from the EFS President Prof. Kevan Wylie President of the European Federation of Sexology (2017-2020) 3 From Sexology to Sexologies Dear Friends and Colleagues, We are very pleased to welcome you to the 14th Congress of the European Federation of Sexology to be held in Albufeira (Algarve – Portugal), from 9th to 12th of May 2018. Both the Portuguese Society of Clinical Sexology (SPSC) and the European Federation of Sexology (EFS) are fully committed to organize a rich, varied, and successful scientific meeting under the theme: “From Sexology to SexologieS”. This is the moment to celebrate Sexology with emphasized “S”: SexologieS. A moment to celebrate Sexology as the Science of Sex from all, and for all from north to south, east, and west of Europe, and other world regions. A moment to celebrate Sexology as a spacious crossway science by opening, and embracing various contributions from research to practice and clinical fields, from sexual health to sexual education and sexual rights, from historical to modern and innovative approaches, from neurophysiology to psychophysiology of sexual response, from biological to psychological sciences, from individual to social dimensions- each with space, and all together communicating. If you are a psychologist, psychiatrist, urologist, gynaecologist, general practitioner, endocrinologist, educator, teacher, social worker, basic researcher, nurse, or other working in the realm of sexology, this congress is tailored for you to be part of this “S”. We will try hard to make this congress your congress: the Sexology sharing space where you can share your work or your curiosity with the scientific sexologist’s community. Come, make a presentation, hear, promote, learn, discuss, and enjoy. We address a special invitation to the members of the SPSC, and to all the affiliated societies of the EFS to come to the Albufeira’s Congress to share science and friendship. Located on the south coast of Portugal, and known worldwide because of its perfect weather, delicious gastronomy, and welcoming people, the region of Algarve is blessed with paradisiac beaches of white sand all along its extensive coastline and a calm sea with warm water temperatures. The renowned city of Albufeira, by many considered the “Capital of Tourism” of the Algarve, has a lot more to offer than just a world-class sun and sea destination: from traces of the Roman presence to evidence of the long legacy of Muslim times, from the Christian reconquers to the epic period of the Portuguese discoveries, you will find all kinds of reasons for rediscovering the signs of a quite distinctive historical past and people; therefore, it is the ideal place to celebrate SexologieS all together, with openness and joy while being hugged by the beach and good weather. On behalf of the EFS and SPSC it is a great honour to welcome you to Albufeira for four unforgettable days in May 2018!
