Abstract or description

In 2015 Anna Francis was commissioned, by The British Ceramics Biennial to complete a series of site-specific performative ‘Wayward Walks’ around the Spode Factory site, plus lead a group of participants in a plant and clay printing workshop, as a way of discussing the historical importance of the Spode Factory, particularly in relation to innovations in printmaking for ceramics.
Francis drew on research into the Victorian Language of Flowers, to explore the factory site in relation to its current deindustrialised state, while exploring the and discussing the signficance of the factory particularly in relation to the underglaze printing techniques developed by Josiah Spode on the site.
