Abstract or description

The Portland Inn Project were one of 16 projects across England to be selected to take part in the development phase of the Creative Civic Change programme. Details from the programme briefing:
"Creative Civic Change is a new programme to help make positive change in your community using the arts and creativity. The programme will provide funding and other support, like advice and mentoring, to at least 10 local areas in England over the next three years. We want to support ambitious creative projects and activities led by local communities, helping you achieve your vision for your area. We are also interested in sharing the experience and learning to inspire others to use the arts and creativity to make positive, local change. The programme is a partnership between Big Lottery Fund, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and Local Trust."
For the development phase, The Portland Inn Project ran a series of activities, trips and consultations for local people about the priorities for the area, in order to inform the writing of a 3 year plan. The plan was successful in being selected to receive £200,000 to deliver on these priorites over the next 3 years (2019 - 2022.)
The identified priorities included:
1. Strengthening the organisation, to ensure we are able to be here to do what is needed. . 2. Securing a temporary Space for Community activity to happen from, while the pub building is being developed. change by the community interest company.
3. Focusing on safety and security through everything we do, by developing a community safety and security plan alongside our activity.
4. Developing skills in the community, which can support activity and events.
