Abstract or description

There is Beauty in the City was a participatory photography project, originally commissioned in 2008 for the Axis Festival in Stoke-on-Trent. The project became an online repository where participants would place a magnet stating ‘There is Beauty in the City’ in an area of a city (worldwide) which they found beautiful, and take a photograph and then send that image into the project, for inclusion on the blog. Such actions would begin to form a consensus and discussion around notions of urban beauty. The project became global, with images being sent it from all over the world, and resulted in a number of exhibitions:
AirSpace gallery, Stoke-on-Trent 2010
Exhibition at Excurdia, 30 Gijon Space, Sept. 2010
Exhibition at Stusio Aalmarkt, Leiden Netherlands, Sept. 2010.
Exhibition in Sala Rekalda Galerie, Bilbao. May 2011
Commissioned by Hand in Glove, for an art event ‘The Stranger at the Party’ in Bristol, Oct. 2010.
