Abstract or description

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 provides a framework for civil partnership as a new kind of legally-recognised relationship between same-sex couples. Under the scheme provision is made for civil partnerships and relationships that are not registered as such. The new relationship has most of the rights, responsibilities and other consequences of marriage, as the book considers. The publication provides an authoritative guide for practitioners who advise same-sex partners in family, private client, tax, social security, and child support areas of the law, including aspects relating to formation and registration, dissolution, financial issues, and children. The reader is assisted by practical checklists and flow-charts, and an accompanying free CD-ROM to facilitate access to the Act and relevant legislation in statutory instruments.
