Abstract or description
After a discussion of the history and development of the UK welfare system, and developments that have shaped it, the book examines the claims, adjudication, and appeals processes. Key areas of the system are then considered, including unemployment-related support, incapacity from work and disability-related support, and the operation of State Retirement Pension and support from the State Pension Credit system. Means-tested support in its various forms, including the in-work support for wages provided by the Working Tax Credit under the Tax Credits Act 2002 is examined, assisted by worked examples and case studies. The interaction with the Child Support system is discussed, with measures like the Child Support, Pensions and Social Security Act 200 featuring in the commentary. Compensation Recovery issues are addressed.
