The Library hosted this conference on behalf of the sigma Network, an organisation that promotes excellence in maths and statistics support in UK Higher Education. The aim was to give ideas and inspiration to delegates as to how social media tools could be used to enhance learning and to give them confidence in their use. Delegates from 17 institutions attended to see our keynote speaker Sue Beckingham, a National Teaching Fellow from Sheffield Hallam University, and to participate in hand-on workshops led by Julie Adams, Helen Walmsley-Smith and Angela Evans. The day ended with two case studies presented by Fiona Knight and Shaun Reeves from the School of Computing and Digital Technologies which discussed Github and professional social networks, while giving an interesting insight into the practicalities of using social media with students.
The workshops covered Facebook, Twitter and Tweetdeck, making/ uploading videos to Youtube, Blogs, Google Docs add-on EqautI0 and Padlet.
