A community project was created to work with first year students in documentary film to create a digital snapshot of the Stoke on Trent community in 2019.
A subsequent moving image visual impression of the city and it's people was created from individual short film creations.
Rather than a set assessment at the University, Fiona GRAHAM created an exhibition with the Potteries Museum in Hanley to screen the films not only to the students but also allow open access to the public to join and see the work and view the various stories and new narratives captured on digital film.
GRAHAM developed the concept and worked with the curator of the museum Joseph Perry to create the screening from the set assessment brief. Moreover the students' work will now become part of a new Living Histories section for the musem which will archive the digital films for posterity and future reference which is open to the public to use.
GRAHAM also worked collaboratively with Professor Ray Johnston to enable the student work to also be archived by BAFTA.
The exhibition was the first of its kind in the Stoke on Trent area to digitally capture so many different aspects of the community and its people in 2019.
The project called Stoke Lives will return to the Museum every year with a new exhibition and build a digital archive for the museum and the public for future generations.
