Abstract or description
In this reflective essay we seek to stimulate a new debate about the social purpose of
place leadership. Recent contributions in organisational studies and business ethics have questioned the values underpinning the modern leadership endeavour (Storr, 2004; Palanski and Yammarino, 2007; Sinclair, 2007; Mabey and Mayrhofer, 2015); or as Killinger (2010) puts it: how [do] we come to decide on “doing the right thing for the right reason”? But to what extent does this incorporate broader questions about ‘in whose interests’?
