Abstract or description

This report presents the findings of a national survey of elected members across local government in the UK. It examines the demographic profile of councillors before turning to the evaluation of the work of councillors, their attitudes to different mechanisms of service improvement, political structures and partnership working. It then analyses attitudes towards and experiences of standards and political behaviour and views towards local governance, before concluding with an understanding of the views of current councillors towards the future of the office of councillor.
