Abstract or description
"As 2025 begins, the people of Stoke-on-Trent are making plans and gearing up to celebrate: the year marks a century since Stoke was officially recognised with city status, in 1925.
Though much of the celebrations will be focused around spring and summer – with the first coinciding with the exact day that the city first gained its status, 5th June – there will be events, projects and celebrations throughout the year.
For my part in celebrating the city and all it has to offer, I am pleased to be collaborating with Art UK on a monthly series exploring public art in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, where both Art UK and I are based. I will share where these publicly owned artworks can be found and what they are about, and speculate on the future of public art in Stoke.
The first in the series focuses on The Cadman Building at The University of Staffordshire frieze, 'Mining, Pottery and the Sciences' by Charles Vyse."
