Abstract or description
Dr. Samantha Spence and Dr. Amit Anand examine witchcraft accusations through gendered and local lenses. They show how caste, gender, and religion shape accusation and violence, and why women in marginalized communities are disproportionately targeted. The analysis highlights the gap between formal rights and grassroots practice, urging recognition of such harms as serious crimes. The authors call for legislative design that is humane and context-aware, paired with awareness at local levels. It is an invitation to move beyond criminalization alone toward prevention and protection.
