SONORITIES FESTIVAL 2015
Ireland’s premier festival of digital and contemporary music, digital arts, sound art, video and installation art opens in London on 17 April at Goldsmiths University of London. It then returns home to the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen’s University, and various venues around the city of Belfast, from 22-26 April inclusive. There are 19 events in 5 days featuring 85 artists from more than 20 countries, and everything (with the exception of one concert in the Mac) is absolutely free.
Immerse yourself in the world premiere of Denis Smalley’s newly-commissioned work celebrating the 250th anniversary of the death of Rameau performed on the forty loudspeakers of the Sonic Lab. Or hear Bangor-born composer Ed Bennett’s latest work featuring pianos (real and toy) with electronics in a double bill with saxophone virtuoso John Butcher at the Mac. See Sam Salem and Matt Parker’s installations at QSS Gallery Bedford Street - the latter nominated for this year’s Aesthetica Art Prize. Listen to Trevor Wishart’s extraordinary response to the Geordie voices he heard as a composer based in Newcastle for a year. Experience outdoor surround sound in the Soundscape Park on Albertsbridge Road.
