The paper examined the EU 'free movement' system with a particular focus on Member States' implementation of labour rights and linked social rights of family members, having regard to restrictions on access to social assistance and wider rights (housing, earnings replacement, etc) when the right of residence has not been acquired or has been lost. Expectations that new arrivals should be, or become 'economically active' and otherwise 'integrate' in host communities was considered, assisted by the presenter's research.
