This was a paper given at the conference ‘Family Welfare & Work’- the 2009 conference in the Welfare & Work series of conferences and advisers workshops organised by the Institute of Industrial Law (IILS), Staffordshire University. Key issues in the presentation concerned the barriers to accessing labour and social rights (including family-related support) of migrant workers, including workers coming to the UK from A8 countries after May 2004. Further information about the session's papers and programme, including papers given by Richard Drabble QC and Judge Mark Rowland, are on the IILS conference site archive: http://www.staffs.ac.uk/research/iils/conferences/archive/ and at: http://www.staffs.ac.uk/assets/family_welfare_work_2009_tcm44-64510.pdf
