Chapter two of Finding Shakespeare's New Place: An Archaeological Biography, ‘The Origins of New Place’, describes the construction and distinctive features of Hugh Clopton’s brick and timber house, the first New Place, and the house which William Shakespeare went on to purchase and renovate, and provides a detailed account of it.
