Abstract or description

Postnatal Depression (PND) in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) women in the UK is higher due to additional risk factors: such as new bride; new culture; unfamiliar antenatal care; poor housing; unemployment lack of interpreters and poor communication.

BAME women are also less likely to be identified as having PND and so remain undetected and untreated.

The ‘How are you feeling?’ picture booklets were designed to provide culturally appropriate images and language to facilitate communication and diagnosis of PND in women whose first language is
Urdu, Bengali, Somali, Chinese, Arabic and English.
