Abstract or description

Creative Mikser is a series of networking meetings addressed to Warsaw’s creative community, organised by the British Council and the City of Warsaw since 2011. For the 19th edition of Creative Mikser, a group of professional artists and artisans were invited to discuss ‘the new wave of craftsmanship’. Its core questions considered, what do ‘good practices of handing-over knowledge of craftmanship to new generations look like? Is the new wave of craftmanship a good idea for efficient and interesting business?’ The symposium explored the best ways of protecting the endangered arts and crafts, and whether the knowledge passed over to young designers/craftsmen has a potential of giving them prospects for starting new flourishing business. The symposium was organised in partnership with the Warsaw Museum in Praga district in Warsaw which specialises in organising workshops for arts and crafts and supports local endangered craftsmen with entrepreneurial trainings etc.

Brownsword was invited as a keynote presenter to reflect on his work with a senior generation of ceramic artisans from North Staffordshire in particular his FACTORY (2017) project - as best practice of the ‘generation- transfer’ of skills and knowledge to new generations in the area of arts and crafts.
