Abstract or description

This portfolio documents the work I have completed whilst completing the Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at Staffordshire University from 2020 to 2025. Across this period, my placements varied consisting of both full time and part time roles in professional settings. Initially I started as a full time smoking cessation advisor for an integrated healthy lifestyle service, before reducing to part time hours to work as a co-production and wellbeing worker for a charity in the East of England supporting unpaid carers. I ended these roles in May 2022, moving to a programme manager role delivering a smoking cessation programme within a mental health trust where I worked full time until October 2023. I completed my time on the doctorate working as a public health strategist in a London Borough. These roles have all given me exposure to a variety of organisations including the NHS, local authority, commissioned services and charities which offered opportunities to develop all the necessary competencies required to meet the doctoral degree requirements.

The portfolio is structured into five chapters with each focusing on one of the core competencies of the Health Psychology programme:
1. Professional Competence
2. Advanced Research Methods
3. Consultancy
4. Teaching and Training in Health Psychology
5. Psychological Interventions

Within each chapter, I include evidence of my ongoing professional development through research papers, case studies and reflective commentaries. These will highlight the projects I have undertaken and the experiences and expertise I have subsequently developed across my time on the doctorate.
