Abstract or description

With Holocaust memorial day fast approaching, it is timely to explore the relevance of archaeological and historical research to modern issues of remembrance and tolerance. Through the personal reflections of a Holocaust archaeologist working on projects of this nature, the impact on society, effected communities and the personal impacts are illustrated.
The impact of continuing to research and present the effects of the Holocaust cannot be underestimated. It is evident that further away we move from the events the more disconnected we feel both individually and as a society. During my time as a researcher, at numerous sites of the Holocaust across Europe, I have personally seen and been subject to the positive and profound effects of presenting the evidence to the attention of the public. As first-hand witnesses to the events become fewer and general lack of knowledge and misinformation becomes more prevalent, the significance of highlighting the evidence becomes more important.
